Quarantine Home Improvement: Make the Most of Your Spare Time

Due to the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the government has issued a stay-at-home policy to reduce the cases of COVID-19. As a result, the majority of the population is working from home, waiting out the epidemic.

The quarantine has given people plenty of time to do other activities. Apart from resurrecting old hobbies, another thing to do at home is to make said home more comfortable during COVID-19. It doesn’t matter whether you add modern window treatment to your home or re-paint the walls a different color — you’ll never run out of things to do to improve your humble abode.

Clear Out the Rubbish

Breathing is easier when you have a cleaner and more organized home. Use your spare time to carry out regular general cleanings: wash the curtains, wash the windows, disassemble the contents of your cabinets, clean the sofas and carpets, and throw away any unnecessary item.

By de-cluttering your home, there will be less dust in the air and more space in your rooms.

Arrange Your Workplace

If you are part of the population encouraged to work from home, creating your workspace can promote productivity at home.

Home offices often have the essentials: a work chair, a desk, and a table lamp. Choose a bright space in your apartment, but not in a place situated under the sun’s rays. Also, find a spot that has a power outlet nearby so you can easily charge your phone or laptop. If not, buy an extension cord.

Make your home office cozier by accessorizing the place. Add an organizer for papers, a corkboard, and a pencil box, Small plants like cacti and succulents add greenery and vitality to your office.

Do Minor Repairs

Quarantine is the best time to fix malfunctions you didn’t have time to do before. Repair dripping faucets, grease the door, tighten your kitchen cabinets’ doors and mask the scratches on your laminate’s surface.

Rearrange the Furniture

If you’re always struggling with reaching the books at the top shelf or often beating your little finger against the cupboard, it’s time to rearrange your furniture.

Before you start dragging and dropping heavy furniture items like beds, sofas, or cabinets, measure your furniture first and figure out how they’ll fit into their new spaces. If you don’t want to rely on eye measurements, paint the area with masking tape.

Create Corners for Relaxation

Think of how you want to spend your time at home. Are you a big fan of reading? Create a personal reading nook near the window. Add a comfortable chair and a reading table near the shelves where you place your books. Place these special corners near the window (if you have) so you can enjoy the sunsets and sunrises in a comfortable setting.

Improve Your Bedroom

Order a new mattress or clean your bed by yourself. Purchase new blankets and pillows for the season or go for bedding made from natural materials. You can also add pleasant smells to your room: install an aroma diffuser and use the scent to promote a soothing atmosphere.

Quarantine has given you more time to do activities you have neglected before. Wait out the epidemic in more pleasant conditions by improving your home during your spare time.
