1. Stainless Steel
A common type of plumbing pipe is the stainless steel variant. Stainless steel pipes are more expensive than other types of pipes, but they are the best option for buildings in coastal areas. Apart from its resistance to corrosion, steel pipes add aesthetic quality due to their sleek and neat appearance.
2. PVC
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes are primarily used for drains or vents. It is also one of the most popular types of piping material for both residential and commercial applications due to its flexibility and relatively low price. Moreover, PVC pipes are lighter and easier to install than metal pipes.
3. PEX
PEX pipes are made from flexible plastic and are also a popular option for residential and commercial buildings. Due to its flexibility, PEX piping can be bent in 90-degree angles and is easily cut. However, PEX pipes are only designed to contain water inside a building. It also cannot be used for outdoor applications because UV rays can destroy the outer plastic layer.
4. Copper

In newer structures, galvanized pipes are not a common choice for piping. Although galvanized piping can be used for water, gas, and drainage, the fact that they rust easily make them a poor choice for piping. Nevertheless, galvanized pipes are known to be extremely durable.
6. Cast Iron
Cast iron pipes are commonly used for drainage and sewage functions. Like galvanized pipes, cast iron pipes are no longer popular choices. But they are still usable until the metal rusts completely, meaning that they can maintain viability for decades. If you live in an older house, you may find cast iron pipes in your basement. If they are thoroughly rusted, you may want to consider replacing them before they break.
7. Brass
Brass is an uncommon material for plumbing pipes, but brass pipes are proven to resist corrosion for many years. In fact, brass piping tends to outlast other plumbing pipes due to the strong copper brass alloy.
