Lash Lifts vs. Lash Extensions: Know the Difference

Not everyone is blessed with naturally long and full eyelashes. For one thing, a dramatic set of lashes can transform your eyes and your entire look. If you are not fortunate enough to have naturally long lashes, you can avail of a lash lift in  Salt Lake City. Other ways to enhance your lashes include having an eyelash extension and using an eyelash mascara.

Lash extensions are becoming more and more popular these days. They have become a go-to, non-invasive beauty enhancement that promises to make your lashes and eyes look expressive and sexy. More often than not, at least one person you know has undergone this procedure. More so, a lot of celebrities have eyelash extensions to enhance their appeal on and off-cam.

And then there are lash lifts. “Isn’t this the same as lash extensions?” you might ask. On one hand, the two treatments have something in common: they make your lashes look longer and fuller. The difference between the two is in how they are done. They also require different kinds of maintenance.

Lash extensions vs. lash lifts: Pros and Cons

Lash lifts do not use extra lashes to make your lashes look fuller. In other words, this procedure uses your natural lashes to achieve the fullness that you want. You won’t have to worry about extensions falling off later on and adding glue to your eyelashes to put the extensions in place.

Lash lifts usually take an hour and cost $175 more or less. While the aesthetician won’t put glue on your lashes, they will apply some chemicals as part of the lash lift procedure. As a result, some clients can experience adverse effects after the procedure, such as itching and redness around the lash area.

In such cases, it is best to avoid adding tint at the end of the procedure. Also, experts recommend not wetting the lashes for about 24 hours after the procedure, as well as putting mascara. With proper care and maintenance, lash lifts can last up to 12 weeks.

On the other hand, lash extensions involve applying several pieces of synthetic lashes, usually made from silk fibers or faux mink. A skilled aesthetician will apply the lash pieces carefully. Depending on the lash volume you are aiming for, the entire procedure can take about two hours. The procedure can cost up to $500 and last for several weeks.

However, it can also have some side effects and might not be recommended for those with allergies. Extensions also tend to fall out after a few weeks and make your lashes look a little unpleasant. Make sure not to wet your lashes for up to 48 hours and avoid facial treatments that involve steam. Avoid rubbing your eyes as well because the extensions might fall off.

These are some of the things you need to think about when choosing between lash lifts or extensions. To keep your treated lashes in place for as long as it can, make sure to follow your aesthetician’s post-care advice.
