How to Care for Yourself if You Have Anorexia

Having anorexia, or any type of mental illness is definitely not easy. There are lots of struggles that you would have to go through, and each one is a huge challenge that anyone would find difficult or even impossible to overcome.

Today, we will give you some of the things that you can do to try and overcome your symptoms that are related to anorexia nervosa. From trying to have the right mindset to consider going to anorexia treatment facilities, we have got it covered here.

Don’t Push Yourself too Hard

When setting goals, you have to remember to set attainable ones and not to push yourself too hard. This will make you stick to the treatment plan, especially if you only have a few. Remember to talk to your doctor and therapist and create the plan and your goals with them.

Do not create too many goals all at once, as this will often set you up for failure. Only list down the ones that you know you would be able to do and start with those. Once everything is accomplished, you can create new goals and start a whole new journey.

Reward Yourself

Once you have achieved a goal, even just the smallest one, then go ahead and reward yourself. It doesn’t matter if it’s finishing your meal or eating a piece of food that you normally wouldn’t eat – every little milestone should be celebrated.

You can consider rewarding yourself with the things that you love. For example, you can take a long and warm bath right after achieving your goal. Try thinking about what you love doing and consider rewarding yourself with it.

Don’t Be Scared to Ask for Support

One of the things that people with mental health issues face is the difficulty of admitting that they are suffering from a particular illness. This makes it much more difficult for them to ask for help, especially if they don’t have a lot of close people around them.

However, you should never be scared to ask or seek help. Try thinking about who you’d be comfortable with when it comes to talking about your mental health – whether it’s a doctor, a therapist, your parent/s, a friend, or a sister, you should try approaching them and talking about your worries.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Loss of sleep can lead to over-worrying, which is why you should make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. You should also see to it that you wouldn’t go to bed too late at night, as this can also cause stress.

Give your mind a peaceful sleep, and the rest will follow.

Having anorexia or any other mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. Always ask for help when you need it and try your best not to succumb to the demons that surround it. If you want to talk to someone, call these hotlines as soon as you feel you are ready to talk.
